Why Choose High Elves?

The Realm of Ulthuan

So what makes the High Elves better than the other armies anyway? Here I will discuss the strengths and weakness of the Asur army.

Strengths

+ When compared to other races, even the basic troops are considered elite. High Elves have good Movement, Weapon Skill, Ballistic Skill, Initiative, and Leadership stats. This means that more than likely you will move faster, fight better and pass more psychology tests than other armies.

+ High Elves mages can dominate foes. They are able to take High Magic or any of the normal 8 Lores of magic. In addition, they have +1 to dispel bonus. They also have magical accessories that can make them fit in either offensive or defensive roles.

+ High Elf spearmen have the Martial Prowness rule, which allows spearmen and sea guard units to fight in three ranks on defense and two on offense. This allows even the most basic of core units to be feared on the battlefield.

+ Thanks to the Valour of Ages special rule, all High Elves are reroll psychology tests when fighting Dark Elves.

+ The High Elf army list is one of the most flexible army lists in the game. You can decide if you want to choose a defensive, magic-heavy, shooting-heavy or high-impact force.

+ The High Elf magic items can be used in a variety of roles. Thier common magic items are 10 percent cheaper than other armies. They have several items less than 25 points, which means several champions can field magic items.

+ With the new Speed of Asuryan rule, all High Elves strike first in close combat. While it does not make the High Elves invinceable, it does makes a serious impact, especially against foes who rely on charges.

Weaknesses:

- All High Elves, even the characters, have only Toughness 3. All infantry troops have no better than a 5+ armor save. These two facts combined make the High Elves extremely fragile and if left unprotected they can die in mass.

- Troops that ignore striking first (like fanatics, steam tanks and chariots) can be a major pain to a High Elf force

- Compared to most armies, the High Elves are expensive points wise.

- While many High Elves units have decent strengths on charges, if engaged if prolonged combats they lose the hitting power to destroy the enemy and that will not favor you.
